EducationGraduated from the Department of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton with a Masters of Engineering (M.Eng.) Honours degree in Electronic Engineering. Research interests included:
Whilst at university I was a sponsored by British Aerospace Land and Sea Systems (which became BAE Systems Combat and Radar Systems in second year and AMS Joint Venture in third). A good job, some brilliant colleagues, but I didn't fancy life full-time on the Isle of Wight. Prior to university, went to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Comprehensive School and Sixth Form in Newcastle upon Tyne WorkI'm currently working for a large broadcasting research department in Surrey. I have the grandiose title of Research Engineer (Actually I'm a Technologist, but am allowed the other title for professional reasons). I've completed my Graduate rotation of three projects. My first examined the effects of analogue to digital TV switchover on small relay stations. My second is in the implementation of a scheme called TV-Anytime, which enhances the metadata associated with TV programs and allows a different method of user interaction with the content. My third was working with Queen's University, Belfast on grid computing. I'm currently working on writing VHDL for use in transmission systems, with a bit of u-wave RF hardware too.Courses Attended
PublicationsForward PlanningI'm currently a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIEE) and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (MIEEE)
and am working towards getting my name added to the Royal Charter. Becoming
a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.) or Europeene Ingenieur (Eur.Ing. replacing
Mr.) requires a lot of hard work and dedication to fulfill the United Kingdom Standard for Professional Engineering Competency (UK-SPEC),
takes a minimum of 8 years (I'm 6+ years into this 8) and requires Masters
level education. (Wearing a ring may be part of it in the future).
